While updating and programming a new digital system in my area I noticed the error log had quite a few listed "APCO 25 BAND PLAN MISSING".

I can receive the system just fine? Is this an option? The system was imported through RR and there is no info related to a band plan listed.

The sound quality is really not that great - a little broken up and/or choppy but it is just clear enough to understand.

Thanks!!

It's not a big deal to have that bandplan missing since the scanner will automatically download it for you if it needs it. It's more of a nice to know kind of thing. As for the sound quality, well that is a whole other problem, it could be just bad reception, interference, overload, or just the decode settings need to be adjusted. Not sure what kind of a scanner you are using but on some types you can adjust the decode settings from software.

I don't believe this to be a signal issue. I can see the meter and it is usually peaked. On both the 396 and 996 the audio is simply too garbled. I am unsure which decode settings you are referring to. I am unsure what the end code settings do (on or off)? APCO Mode, Modulation & Threshold?

It would be nice to know what firmware you are running in both scanners. Many, though by no means everyone, have found that the newest firmware does perform better on P25 decode - though it should be noted that some folks have actually found it worse.

You can find some discussion about thresholds, end codes and more in the RR Wiki DMA FAQ;

http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Uniden_DMA_FAQ

Read the article on adjusting the P25 decode level, and the ones that follow it (all links are in blue)

As noted earlier, there's a lot of factors that can affect P25 decoding. One of the worst - and one that we really can't do anything about - has to do with simulcast distortion. What system(s) are you listening to? Be as specific as you can - go to the RR Database and supply the URLs.
