I reprogrammed my 996t last night with FreeSCAN. Was a lot easier to use than other software I have tried. Seems to be working great at this time. I was looking at the display window and the screen is different (display) than it was before I programed it.

On page 44 of the BCD996T Owners manual there is a picture of how it looks Mine has every thing but the frequency.

1 Group Quick Key             8 Talk Group ID
2 Site Quick Key               9 Talk Group Frequency
3 Channel Group Name     10 System Type (M,C,E,L)
4 System Name               11 Modulation Type (Narrowband FM shown
5 Hold Indicator               12 Attenuation enabled
6 Signal Strength             13 Priority ON
7 Close Call Enabled         14 CTCSS or DCS Indicator

Can anyone try to explain what I did wrong. Or do I need to add more info to reprogram it again?
Anny suggestions would be appreciated when I use the old program on my other computer to
program it all of those features show up on the screen. Huh?

Take a look at:

scanner
setup scanner options
general tab
lower right corner...see if "mode 2 (frequency)" is checked in FreeSCAN.

Sounds like that may be what you need.

I've been there done that before I wrote to the scanner. any other suggestions. I don't really want to go back to the old program I guess I will try it again and see what happens, as it was I had to try to write it to the scanner three times are there issues with windows7 ?
If so I will load the program on my other lap top and try it again.

Might have to disable or enable active channel display mode as well.

In the scanner itself or in the programing software ?

On the front of the scanner. push the FUNC  knob and .No button. It will change the 'active channel display'.
