Post descriptions/url's etc here and let us all in on the 'good stuff'....

Anybody tried Foxit reader? A pretty nice replacement for Adobe Reader (reads PDF's). Much lighter weight and quicker to start and doesn't ALWAYS want to be updated!

I'm dropping into this topic a year late! ACK!    Cheesy

I find I have to stick with Adobe for pdf's - only because I frequently have to create them along with reading them. If I didn't have to, I'd certainly go with Foxit or possibly one of the other freeware programs - no question they're faster, don't update all the time and work significantly "cleaner" than Acrobat Pro!

I also like Picassa 3, but again have to work with Adobe, this time Photoshop. BUT, I put Picassa 3 on my husband's computer for him to use! I started using Photoshop decades ago on the Mac and still use it today on both the PC and Mac, so it's more than second nature to me. But trying to teach my husband (who's NOT a geek! LOL) was impossible. He loves Picassa 3 and it does everything he wants and needs!

I *do* frequently recommend Open Office though. I have felt, for years, it's excellent and can save people a TON of money!

I've got lots of little programs that do interesting things, but the one that is probably most relevant to my forum participation is a program called Evernote and its corresponding web site.  If I read something in a post that I might want to refer to later, I highlight it, and click the "Save to Evernote" button in the toolbar.  The part that I highlighted is saved into Evernote where I can easily find it by searching or by the tags that I can attach to it myself.

I can capture text, data or even graphics that way and they are easy to find when I need them.  The website allows you to keep that data stored with their server so that you can access it from any computer on the web using your login and password.  It also allows you to keep the datafile synchronized automatically between two or more computers.

Best part is that it's free unless you want/need the premium features.

Dick,

I was looking all OVER for the button to add things to EverNote (thanks, BTW - pretty nifty). Finally did a search for tools/add-ons in Firefox and found the button that needed to be added. <g>

Is that what you were talking about or does it come with some of the software that you can install? Looks like it might be a pretty slick deal and seems reasonable at $5 a month ($45/yr) for the premium even if that is needed.
